Postmortem Metabolomics Service

Decomposition of cadavers is a complex chemical reaction. The lack of oxygen in tissue cells after death of the organism, as well as the termination of supernatural reactions, anabolic reactions and cellular autolysis and microbial decomposition processes, result in extensive changes of metabolites in multiple tissues throughout the body, from large molecules such as lipids, proteins and nucleic acids to small molecules such as amino acids, fatty acids and nucleotides, which are gradually degraded.

Metabolomics is the study of small molecule metabolites with molecular weight <1,000 Da in biological samples. Combined with high-throughput detection techniques, the changes of metabolites in organisms are explored.

The level and type of metabolites at the time of death are most likely to reflect the events leading to death. Metabolomics technology can simultaneously detect a variety of small molecule metabolites at different periods after death, which is helpful to understand the changes of various metabolites after death and provide effective information for postmortem interval (PMI) inference.

Creative Proteomics offers metabolomics services for post-mortem metabolite change studies, which can analyze the types and levels of metabolites in tissue and blood samples.
