What is 3-Phosphoglycerate?

3-Phosphoglycerate (3-PG) is a critical intermediate in the metabolic pathway that converts glucose into energy in the form of ATP. It is also involved in the biosynthesis of various essential molecules like amino acids, lipids, and nucleotides. The measurement of 3-PG levels can provide valuable insights into cellular metabolism, energy status, and disease progression.

Cancer cells have a unique metabolic profile characterized by increased glucose uptake and utilization through glycolysis, even in the presence of oxygen, a phenomenon known as the Warburg effect. 3-PG is an important intermediate in this process and its levels are typically elevated in cancer cells. Therefore, 3-PG analysis can provide valuable information about tumor metabolism and potential drug targets.

Athletes require a constant supply of energy during intense training. 3-PG levels can reflect the energy status of muscle cells. 3-PG analysis can help identify metabolic disorders that may affect an athlete's performance.

3-PG analysis can also be used to study plant metabolism and understand how plants use carbon dioxide for growth and development. It can also provide insight into how plants respond to environmental stresses such as drought or heat.

Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) technology is a highly sensitive and high-resolution technique that can detect low levels of molecules in complex biological samples. This technique separates and ionizes the sample, and then detects and identifies it in the mass spectrometer. Because 3-PG concentrations are typically very low, a highly sensitive technique is required for detection.

Creative Proteomics has a team of experienced scientists and we use advanced technology and analytical methods to provide accurate and reliable results for 3-PG analysis. Their services include not only 3-PG analysis, but also analysis of other metabolites such as glucose, lactate and pyruvate. In addition, we offer customized services to meet your specific needs.
